District 113 aims to be a welcoming destination for exchange students. Our students benefit from learning alongside students from other countries, and our entire school community benefits from the perspectives, interests, and ideas of students from other places.
Rules and procedures for exchange students are governed by Board of Education policies, particularly 7-50: School Admissions and Student Transfers To and From Non-District Schools.
We are now accepting applications for exchange students for the 2025-26 school year. For the 2025-26 school year, Deerfield High School and Highland Park High School have space for 2 exchange students each.
To apply, a placement agency and/or exchange program must submit via email to the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources a packet of information that includes at minimum the following information.
-
A personal letter from the student;
-
Detailed information on student and natural family;
-
Proof that the student has sufficient language ability to function in an American classroom;
-
Original transcript of student’s high school grades, with English translation;
-
Necessary medical history, including proof of immunization as required by the school district, any medical/physical restrictions, and a recent physical exam.
Applications must be received by December 1, 2024. Notification of acceptance will be shared no later than February 15 of the preceding school year.
Priority for exchange students is given first to host families of current District 113 students, then to host families of District 113 alumni, and then to host families who reside within District 113’s attendance boundaries.
