The primary purpose of this committee is to foster a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially while promoting a sense of trust and security within the community. The committee will not have the authority to draft new or modify existing D113 Board Policies or Procedures.
1. Purpose
- Foster a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially while promoting a sense of trust and security within the community.
- Assess the safety climate and enhance the well-being of students, staff, and the broader school community.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between the schools, students, parents, and district stakeholders.
- Educate families and community members on current safety trends and available school resources.
- Seek input from students, staff, and parents to evaluate safety systems and address emerging concerns.
Note: The committee will not have the authority to adopt new or modify existing District 113 Board Policies or Procedures.
2. Commitment
- The D113 School Safety Committee will meet quarterly during the school year.
- The meetings will be 90 minutes long and will be held after school.
- Members who are selected will be expected to commit the time and energy to attend meetings, contribute ideas, and participate in activities.
3. Selection Process
- The process will be open and transparent.
- Every student and parent/guardian has the opportunity to apply.
- The committee will reflect the diversity that exists within our school community.
- Parents and caregivers from each grade level will be prioritized to ensure new perspectives and experienced insights will be included.
- All candidates will be required to submit a form identifying their interests, experience, and expectations for serving on this committee.
4. Inclusivity
- Committee materials will be presented in multiple languages, as needed, and meeting times will be accessible for working parents.
